  1. I think this story is about the life's of two different people. The dentist being a poor man who has no power and the mayor a rich and powerful man. The dentist makes the mayor pay when he says " Now you'll pay for our twenty dead men" and pulls out his tooth without anesthesia.

    1. I agree with you because the dentist wants to get revenge on the mayor and wants to make him suffer.

    2. I agree with it being about revenge and corruptness but you didn't say what the quote meant.

  2. I think the story One of These Days is about the rule of the government. The mayor represents the government and the dentist the citizens. Sometimes the citizens do not agree with the the government but nothing much can be done about it. We must go with the laws because it is what is right. The dentist decided to take out the mayor's tooth because it was right since it was in bad conditions.

    1. After reading back..I can understand how you would think that. Very good analysis! :)

    2. Does that mean citizens have the right to "take out government" if it doesn't do what is right?

    3. I agree with wanting him to make him suffer but to Mr.G's comment, he says he is like deaf people that can't really do anything, they could only see but nor say anything about it.

  3. I think the story One of These Days is about government justice.
That Aurelio Escovar wanted the Mayor to know the feeling of pain and suffering. He was a simple man yet he got the power to control the Mayor for 5 painful days. The injustice that he has done to his town was paid when Aurelio pulled out his tooth without anesthesia.

    1. I agree with you because Aurelio forced the mayor to feel vulnerable and powerless just like the mayor does to the citizens.

  4. My analysis of the story One of These Days is that the government is being corrupted. The mayor seems to represent the corrupted government and and the wrong way that the political power is used. The dentist represents the citizens. The dentist is poor and he has no power so when he has mayor at vulnerable place he is able to seek revenge for what the mayor has done. The title One of These Days explains how the dentist will have has revenge.

    1. Yes!:).. I can relate your analysis with mine because you said that Aurelio Escovar took revenge for what the major had done and thats exactly what he did. He had taken control. Over all good job!

  5. I think this short story story resembles power over someone else. Aurelio Escovar took advantage of the situation because the dentist was able to crush the Mayor’s pride and arrogance by letting the Mayor suffer temporarily.

    1. I agree with your analysis, because the mayor believes he is powerful and can do whatever he wants. For example he told the dentist he'll shoot him if he doesn't do what he says.

  6. My analysis on the short story "One of These Days" is that the government has gone corrupt with power. Aurelio Escovar represented the powerless citizens against the powerful mayor, and gets revenge by showing the mayor how it feels to be powerless while also being vulnerable against someone who can control you.

    2. Nice...does this make you want to go see the dentist?

    3. Mr. G, I already have to see a dentist every month, so...no not really

  7. My analysis on this story is that the mayor represents the government, and the dentist represents the citizens. The government isn't good and I think the citizens can't do anything about it. So the dentist takes off the tooth and makes him suffer.

  8. But why does he want to make him suffer?

  9. I think this short story is about revenge on the selfishness of the government. Aurelio compared themselves to deaf people who can only see but not say anything. He didn't want to put anasthesia because he wanted him to feel the pain of being forced to do something.
